Synchromie en Noir — Auguste Herbin
A bold and rigorous work from one of the pioneers of European geometric abstraction, Synchromie en Noir exemplifies Auguste Herbin's lifelong pursuit of a pure visual language built from color, form, and rhythm. This composition deploys geometric shapes in a carefully orchestrated harmony — a visual symphony in which black anchors and defines the interplay of color and structure.
Herbin (1882–1960) was a central figure in the Parisian avant-garde, moving from Post-Impressionism and Fauvism through Cubism before arriving at the fully non-figurative abstraction for which he is celebrated. He co-founded the influential groups Abstraction-Création and Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, championing non-figurative art at a time when it was still fiercely contested. His later development of an "alphabet plastique" — a system linking letters, colors, and forms — placed him among the most systematic and original thinkers in abstract art.
A striking and intellectually rich work — a print that brings the energy and precision of the European abstract tradition into any space.
