Still Life with Flowers – Rachel Ruysch (1664–1750)
A breathtaking cascade of blooms — roses, tulips, poppies, and morning glories tumbling together in luminous abundance. Rachel Ruysch painted flowers with an intimacy and precision that no one before or since has quite matched: every petal catching the light, every leaf casting its shadow, the whole composition alive with color and quiet wonder.
Rachel Ruysch (1664–1750) was one of the most celebrated painters of the Dutch Golden Age and one of the most successful female artists in history. Court painter to the Elector Palatine Johann Wilhelm in Düsseldorf, she commanded prices that rivaled Rembrandt during her lifetime. Her floral still lifes — rich, complex, and technically flawless — remain among the finest examples of the genre ever painted.
