Specials 3 - Window Washers - WWII

Specials 3 - Window Washers captures a striking image of British women taking on jobs that would have been unthinkable before the war. From 1941, women were called up for war work in roles such as mechanics, engineers, munitions workers, air raid wardens, and bus and fire engine drivers — and yes, even window washers on London's buildings.

By mid-1943, almost 90 per cent of single women and 80 per cent of married women were working in factories, on the land, or in the armed forces. A remarkable chapter in British history.
