Adolfo Hohenstein (Saint Petersburg, 1854 – Bonn, 1928) is one of the towering figures of European poster art — a German-born artist who made Italy his home and became the undisputed father of Italian poster art. Working in Milan from the 1880s onward, he pioneered the Stile Liberty — the Italian expression of Art Nouveau — and brought it to its most spectacular heights in a series of iconic posters that remain among the most celebrated in the history of graphic art.

His most famous works include the original posters for Puccini's Tosca and La Bohème for the Casa Ricordi music publisher, as well as landmark advertising campaigns for Campari — images so powerful they defined the visual identity of Italian luxury and sophistication for a generation.
