LONDON UNIC BRAND TAXIS

From 1906 onwards, the Unic — first in twin-cylinder and later in four-cylinder form — appeared in increasing numbers on the taxi ranks of London. Built by the French manufacturer Unic, founded by Georges Richard in Le Pré-Saint-Gervais, these sturdy and reliable vehicles became a familiar sight on the streets of Edwardian and interwar London. The last of a long line of this make were still in evidence as late as 1952, a testament to their remarkable durability. This vintage advertising poster captures the elegance of early 20th-century urban transport at its most iconic.
