Théophile Steinlen (1859–1923), born in Lausanne, Switzerland, became one of the most beloved poster artists of Montmartre. After settling in Paris in the 1880s, he immersed himself in the bohemian world of Le Chat Noir, creating iconic images of Parisian street life, cats, and working-class culture. His fluid, expressive line and warm humanity made him one of the defining voices of French Art Nouveau poster art.
This charming poster for Lait Pur Stérilisé Quillot Frères — a sterilized milk brand from the Belle Époque — showcases Steinlen's signature warmth, featuring his beloved cats alongside a wholesome domestic scene that made the brand instantly recognizable across France.
