Maurice de Vlaminck (1876–1958) was one of the most explosive and original figures of the Fauve movement — a self-taught painter, violinist, and force of nature who threw himself into color with the same raw energy he brought to everything in life. Alongside his friend André Derain, he helped ignite one of the most radical revolutions in the history of modern art.
La Petite Fille à la Poupée — also known as La Fille de ma voisine (My Neighbor’s Daughter) — is one of his most tender and intimate works. A young girl holds her doll with quiet concentration, rendered in Vlaminck’s characteristically bold, warm palette. There is none of the wild intensity of his most Fauvist canvases here — instead a gentle, almost affectionate gaze at childhood innocence, full of warmth and humanity.
Today it is held in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Chartres. Now it can bring that same warmth and charm to your home.
