Gene Kelly (August 23, 1912–February 2, 1996) was an American dancer, actor, singer, director, producer, and choreographer whose athletic style helped transform the Hollywood musical. He is especially remembered for Singin' in the Rain, An American in Paris, and On the Town, films that combined dance, music, and cinematic movement with a distinctive sense of energy and grace.
Kelly received an Academy Honorary Award in 1952 and later received Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime achievement. His work continues to define the golden age of the American musical and remains a landmark in the history of dance on screen.
