I Raro te Oviri (Under the Pandanus, 1891) is one of Paul Gauguin's earliest and most luminous Tahitian works — painted in the first flush of his arrival in the South Pacific, when the island's colors, light, and people struck him with the force of a revelation. Two Tahitian women recline in a landscape of extraordinary richness and warmth, the pandanus tree arching above them, the colors singing with an intensity that no European palette had yet dared.

Gauguin came to Tahiti seeking a world untouched by the anxieties of modern civilization, and in works like this one he found it — or rather, he invented it, transforming what he saw into a vision of primal beauty and timeless calm that is entirely his own. The figures are monumental yet relaxed, rooted in the earth, at one with the landscape around them.

Paul Gauguin was one of the great Post-Impressionist masters — a painter of radical originality whose Tahitian works opened the door to a new understanding of color, form, and the expressive possibilities of paint.

This fine art print is reproduced on premium luster photo paper, capturing the radiant color and extraordinary atmosphere of Gauguin's original with exceptional fidelity.
