Ambassadeurs Aristide Bruant, Toulouse-Lautrec

Aristide Bruant (1851–1925) was the most colorful figure of Montmartre's golden age — a cabaret singer, comedian, and nightclub owner who dressed in a red scarf and black cape and sang raw, poetic songs about the struggles of Parisian street life. When Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec began frequenting the cabarets of Montmartre, Bruant became one of his closest friends and most iconic subjects. The result was some of the most celebrated poster art in history — bold, graphic, and instantly recognizable.
