Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) painted Almond Blossom in February 1890 from his room at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence — and it is one of the most tender and joyful works he ever created.

He painted it as a gift to celebrate the birth of his nephew, named Vincent Willem after him — the son of his beloved brother Theo. To welcome this new life into the world, Van Gogh chose the almond tree: one of the first trees to bloom in late winter, its white blossoms bursting against a clear blue sky like a promise of spring. Inspired by Japanese woodblock prints, he placed the branches close and bold against the sky, filling the canvas with an almost musical sense of renewal and hope.

It is a painting made with pure love. Today it hangs in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, where it remains one of the most beloved works in the collection. Now it can bring that same warmth and beauty to your home.
